Every Tamil movie fan must have heard of veteran filmmaker cum actor K Bhagiyaraj. He has had a successful record and his next venture Siddu Plus Two First Attempt (SPTFA) is quite promising as well. He has also been known for giving huge musical hits and this time he has teamed up with music composer Dharan. They have already worked before in ‘Parijatham’ needless to say, movie has some wonderful music.

SPTFA has Santhanu Bhagiyaraj and Chandni in lead roles. Aspects like direction, story, dialogues and screenplay have been handled by Bhagiyaraj himself. The album has total 6 songs out of which 4 has been composed by Dharan whereas Thaman and Babu Shankar has composed one each. The album is quite interesting and offers a variety of music.

The album begins with ‘Poove Poove’ that has been rendered by famous music composer Yuvan and Chinmayee. This song is best suited for taste of youngsters with its mild beats and catchy melody. ‘Poove Poove (Remix)’ is the next number rendered by Yuvan again. Quite appealing, this song has potential to lure youngsters in a big way.

Singers, Haricharan, ‘Ganja’ Karuppu, C A Raja and Maniyan have crooned next song ‘Kelu…Kelu’. A soft song with elements of humor in it. I must say, it’s an interesting experiment. Ranjith, Rahul Nambiar and Naveen have sung next song called ‘Gundu Chattikkule’. A typical youth song, this might prove to be a huge hit in coming time.

‘Money Money’ sung by Benny Dayal and Reshmi is the next song. A perfect song for discotheques, it has racy beats and peppy music. The last song of the album is ‘Naan Aalana Thamarai’ rendered by Venkat Prabhu, Suchitra and Srimathumitha. This one is a fast number and can be pick of the album. Song is quite energetic. To sum up, music of SPTFA offers variety and variation.

One of the most talented Tamil singer and composer is Deva. He is in Tamil film industry for more than 20 years and needless to say, this has proved to be one memorable journey for this amazing singer. A great talent, Deva is also known as the “Father of Gaana Genre” in Tamil film industry. His musical journey started in 1989 with the film Manasukkeththa Maharaasa. He composed music for this movie and all the songs were chartbusters. The astonishing fact is Deva has composed music for no less than 400 movies. He has passed on his musical genes to his son Srikanth Deva who is also an established name in Tamil music direction.

Deva’s most popular songs have come from movies like Aasai, Citizen, Kaadhal Kottai, Chocolate, Kaalamellam Kaadhal Vaazhga, Annamalai, Dum, Avvai Shanmugi, Chokka Thangam, Bhagavathi, Basha and Devadhayai Kanden. A recipient of many awards, Deva has got a large fan following. His first came in 1990 when he won Tamil Nadu State Film Award. Thereafter he has won Tamil Nadu Government’s Kalaimamani Award and several other awards from popular journals.

Deva had struggled to make his mark in film industry. During his initial days, he worked in the Television field. He belonged to a family of musicians. Even his brothers were working in the musical troupes of Illayaraja and other music directors as instrumentalists. But Deva took his own sweet time to develop his skills and wanted to make his mark in an individual capacity. But the struggling period was long. Even the initial music assignments received by him did not materialize and films had to be shelved. Finally, all his hard work came to fruition when he signed his first movie, Manasukkeththa Maharaasaa. This movie was followed by Vaikaasi Poranthaachu and this movie turned his life forever. Its songs were huge hits and thereafter he never looked back. Deva has also dabbled into other regional movies and proved to be a huge hit.

Tamil music industry is quite rich in terms of talent and quality. Tamil Nadu is more famous for its carnatic classical music. This music tradition has been maintained for ages and the state has given us numerous talents in the arena. Tamil film music is yet to become as prominent as carnatic classical music. Understandably, Tamil music being the regional one, it has its own followers and in southern states it is one of most popular form of music. Numerous musicians in the region have composed wonderful songs that have gained huge popularity. The state has wonderful musical talents in singing as well as composing. But two names that dwarf all others are the legendary Illayaraja and incomparable A R Rahman. These two names have completely redefined the standard of music in Tamil music industry. Music directors are a talented breed whose primary job is to compose music that we would love to hear. However, that’s easier said than done. Songs by these two have fed generations of music lovers. The only reaction one gives is of amazements and gratitude towards these two.

Music can take you to a different world. For Tamil music lovers, despite the arrival of many new forms of music, songs by these two maestros are given first preference. Their music has no bounds. It is being said that music is a healer and from that perspective, perhaps Ilayaraja and A R Rahman have remained the greatest healers. Their fan following has kept increasing and the appetite of the fans show no signs of fatigue. To their credit, they have composed music for films as well as numerous charities. There are several other music composers in Tamil music industry like Yuvan Shankar Raja, Harris Jayaraj, Vishal Shekhar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Ismail Darbar and Deva etc but none of them could really beat them as far as popularity is concerned. We will talk about these maestros in separate articles.
