One of the recent music releases in Tamil cinema is Ugaippadam. The movie is oriented towards college life and is said to be based on a true story. The movie is produced by N C Manikandan and stars Amjad, Yamini and Vijay Yesudas. The music has been composed by talented Gangai Amaran who has kind of made a comeback in the composing arena. A man of numerous talents, Amaran has managed to create some really wonderful music that is sure to strike some chords. Most of the songs of the album have youthful appeal and singers include Krish, Venkat Prabhu and Vijay Yesudas. One of the leading tracks has been sung by charismatic duo of S P Balasubramaniam and Chitra that itself is worth a buy.

The first song of the album is ‘Pennilamae’ and the voices have been lent by Balaji and Krish. The lyrics has been written by composer Gangai Amaran himself and the song is a treat to your ears. Quite an energetic song, it is a peppy song. Both the singers have given their best and managed to raise the tempo of this pacy song. As far as lyric is concerned, only one word describes it; bubbly. The second song of the album is ‘Oru Kudayil’ and singers are Venkat Prabhu and Prashanthini. A melodious song the music is very soft and words are charming. Venkat Prabhu has done a commendable job.

The third song of the movie is ‘Vaan Nilavudhaan’ and sung by Vijay Yesudas. Lovely lyrics and emotional theme is the hallmark of this song. Next song is ‘Idhu Kanavo’ and beautifully sung by amazing duo of SP Balasubramaniam and Chitra. Litlting music and mesmerizing voice of the song wil leave you asking for more. The last song is ‘Odaikanum’ and voice has been rendered by Haricharan and Vijay Yesudas. It is a soft and soothing song. Overall, one can have a go at the album. If one needs any other motivation then the name Gangai Amaran should be enough to tempt him.

Some music combinations are too hard to resist. Take for example, filmmaker Ameer and music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja. These two have always produced scintillating songs in tandem. Something magical just gets created when the duo team up. One can vividly remember their earlier hits, ‘Mounam Pesiyadhe’ and ‘Paruthiveeran’. Yogi aims to be the next in the hit list of these two. However, role is slightly changed this time. Ameer is making his debut as an actor and the movie is directed by Subramaniam Siva. What sets this album apart from others is smart usage of instrumentation by Yuvan Shankar Raja and wonderful lyrics penned down by Snehan.

The first song of the album is ‘Yogi Yogi Thaan’ and sung by Blaze and Neha Bhasin. Quite a peppy song, this is sure to impress you. This song also sets the momentum for rest of the album. Yuvan is known for using his orchestration in an appealing fashion and here, it is no exception. This song has all the signs of becoming a chart buster.  The second song is ‘Yaarodu Yaaro’ and rendered by Yuvan himself and Ustad Sultan Khan. A lovely mellifluous song, the song boasts of wonderful rhythms. You will remember this song as a soft and stylish one.

‘Yogi Theme’ in Saarangi is the next one in the list and rendered by Ustad Sultan Khan. The amazing combination of instrument and singer does wonders for this song. It is definitely a ‘Hat Ke’ song. Next number is ‘Seermevum Koovathiley’. Sung by talented bunch of Ameer, Naveen, Snehan and Jijuba, one can also call it the pick of the album. The main features of the song are rural beats, rhythmic music and beautiful lyrics. The last one is Yogi Theme music (instruments). A perfect example of fusion music, the theme music is sure to make a place in your heart.

The music director is a well known name in Kannada film industry and this is Vijay’s first Tamil venture. The album has total six songs.

First song of the album is ‘Utthirathil’ with vocals by Madhu Balakrishnan. The song reminds you of Chakravaha ragam (those who are familiar with classical music must have heard of this). It is basically a soft lullaby and rhythms are deep. It touches upon your chord and gives you something to listen in silence. The second song of the movie is ‘Adichhi Pottaa’. Song has been sung by Mukesh and it is basically a fun song with rustic element. Song is a light one and has good chances of being on the chart for a while.

The music is enthralling and rhythm is appealing. ‘Johnny Walker’ is the next song in the album. A normal song that fits well with the overall feel of the album. Song has all the potential to become a chartbuster.

Tamil music is one of the most ancient and complex forms of music. Infact it’s rightly said that once a person learns the nuances of Carnatic music which is the classical Tamil music it’s very simple for him to follow other music styles and forms. Most of these Tamil songs, old or new, remix or classical Carnatic are available for free download in varying formats like mp3, real audio and wma.

Tamil music started off with the Classical Carnatic music. It was basically developed by the trinity of 3 saints called Thyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar and Shyama Shastrigal. Purandaradasar was another one of the pioneers of Carnatic music.

The initial Tamil movie songs were more classical oriented with devotional songs dominating the scene. Melody was a key element in all the songs. But over the years Tamil film music has kept pace with the changing times and the music has evolved from being melody oriented to being disco beat oriented. The music today has all the elements like hip hop, rap, disco beats, English lyrics infused within the songs which the young audience can identify with.

The Tamil movie songs lyrics are available online for free download. Popular Tamil carnatic singers include MS Subbulakhmi, Balamurali Krishna, TN Seshagopalan, Bombay Jayashree, Bombay sisters, Unnikrishnan, Yesudas to name a few.
