Some music combinations are too hard to resist. Take for example, filmmaker Ameer and music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja. These two have always produced scintillating songs in tandem. Something magical just gets created when the duo team up. One can vividly remember their earlier hits, ‘Mounam Pesiyadhe’ and ‘Paruthiveeran’. Yogi aims to be the next in the hit list of these two. However, role is slightly changed this time. Ameer is making his debut as an actor and the movie is directed by Subramaniam Siva. What sets this album apart from others is smart usage of instrumentation by Yuvan Shankar Raja and wonderful lyrics penned down by Snehan.

The first song of the album is ‘Yogi Yogi Thaan’ and sung by Blaze and Neha Bhasin. Quite a peppy song, this is sure to impress you. This song also sets the momentum for rest of the album. Yuvan is known for using his orchestration in an appealing fashion and here, it is no exception. This song has all the signs of becoming a chart buster.  The second song is ‘Yaarodu Yaaro’ and rendered by Yuvan himself and Ustad Sultan Khan. A lovely mellifluous song, the song boasts of wonderful rhythms. You will remember this song as a soft and stylish one.

‘Yogi Theme’ in Saarangi is the next one in the list and rendered by Ustad Sultan Khan. The amazing combination of instrument and singer does wonders for this song. It is definitely a ‘Hat Ke’ song. Next number is ‘Seermevum Koovathiley’. Sung by talented bunch of Ameer, Naveen, Snehan and Jijuba, one can also call it the pick of the album. The main features of the song are rural beats, rhythmic music and beautiful lyrics. The last one is Yogi Theme music (instruments). A perfect example of fusion music, the theme music is sure to make a place in your heart.

Shruthi Kamal Haasan is creating buzz in filmy circles. The lass is a multi-talented artist who has also made his bollywood debut with the movie ‘Luck’. Talented daughter of super-talented parents, Kamal Haasan and Sarika, she recently made her debut as a music composer with the movie ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’. The movie stars Kamal Hassan and MohanLal and is creating quite a buzz in Tamil film industry. Movie is based on critically acclaimed Hindi movie ‘A Wednesday’. The movie has mostly catchy songs and that sets the mood for the film. Interestingly, one of the singers in the album is Kamal Hassan himself. Album has managed to earn good reviews thanks to its smart instrumentation and rhythm pattern.

The album starts with the song ‘Nilai Varuma’ and the voices are of Kamal Hassan and Bombay Jayashreee. Song boasts of passion and power. Kamal Hassan sings loudly and probably that’s the idea of it. Song is quite promising and instrumentation is commendable. The next song in the album is ‘Vanam Yellai Illai’ and sung by Shruthi Hassan and Blaaze. The song has the potential to become favorite of youths because of its energy, catchy vocals and racy rap. Blaze is surely going places. ‘Allah Janne’ is the next song of the album and rendered by solo voice of Shruthi Haasan. Considered as pick of the album, song has been rendered beautifully. Nice usage of number of orchestration and rhythms, song is sure to catch your fancy.

‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ is the next number of the album and rendered by Mira, Tara and Aiden. It is also the title song. Song is more in the mould of jingle and its lyrics are very well written. Moving further, we listen to ‘Allah Jaane’ that has been sung by Kamal Haasan. A very different song, this gives the impression of nasal voice. To sum up, album is surely fresh and catchy, all thanks to Shruti’s exuberance and talent.

The songs of Eeram have been composed by Thaman and I must say, he has managed to impress us. The guy is surely is talented one as he also earned god reviews for his acting in Shankar’s Boys. His earlier movie ‘Sinthanai Sei’ proved to be a rage amongst youngsters and Eeram promises to recreate his magic. The movie has been directed by Arivazhagan. Songs of the movie are very simple and charming. Music is definitely different and theme music will impress you. The album has three songs.

The first number is ‘Mazhaiye Mazhaiye’ and sung by Ranjith. Music of the song focuses more on voice and less on instrumentation. It is a soft and touching song that will tug at your heartstrings. Ranjith has done a commendable job and lyrics have done full justice to the rendering. The next song is ‘Tharai Erangiya’ that has been sung by Suchitra. The song thrives on orchestration and rhythm. This song is really different and not at all your run of the mill kind of stuff.

The third number is ‘Saaral En’ and sung again by Ranjith. Probably the pick of the lot, Saaral will take your breath away with its voice and harmony. One is sure to love this masterpiece. Finally, the theme of the Eeram, is quite appealing and alluring. Mixing together of different sounds does some wonders and you are left wanting for more. Instrumentation work is very interesting and chorus is effective as well. Thaman has surely done a good job and promises a lot. This youngster seems to have what it takes to become a hit in kollywood.

If there is any one word that defines music of Aayirathil Oruvan then it must be daring. Director Selvaraghavan teams up with talented music director G V Prakash and the result is no less than a collection to behold. Music lovers have taken this album with glee and excitement. The young age of music composer is truly reflected in the type of music he has given. It is a wonderful combination of ancient, modern and classical stuff. The blend is truly impressive. Prakash has typically given his soul in the music and all the 10 songs are very different from each other. New singers like Dhanush and Aishwarya has done commendable job.

Karthik and Andrea Jeremiah have rendered their voices to Oh Eesa song. The voices are sizzling and orchestra work works magic. Maalai Neram has been sung by Andrea Jeremiah and G V Prakash Kumar. The free usage of guitar can be clearly heard in the song. Beats are mild and song slowly grows on you. Un Mela Aasadhan comes out wonderfully in the voice of Dhanush, Aishwarya Dhanush and Andrea Jeremiah. A peppy song with fusion of folk-rep, the orchestration actor plays a significant role in final outcome of the song.

The King Arrives has been sung by Neil Mukherji and Madras Augustin. It is a refreshing song. Singers Vijay Yesudas, Nithyashree Mahadevan and Shri Krishna have rendered their collective voice to the song Thai Thindra Mannae. Song has lyrics in several languages and it has a soft feel about it. Permannae has been sung by talented duo of Bombay Jayashree and P B Srinivas. Flute instrumentation is wonderfully reflected in the song Celebration of Life. Vijay Yesudas has sung Thai Thindra Manne which is quite a different number. To sum up, if you are looking for some really different stuff then go for ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’.

If melody is what you are seeking then you don’t need to look any further. Just get a cassette or CD of Kanden Kadhalai and well, sit down, relax and cherish its melodious tunes. Kanden Kadhalai is a Tamil remake of hit Hindi movie Jab we Met. Music has been composed by Vidyasagar and songs have already started to make waves. One common problem with a remake is burden of expectations it carries especially if the original one was a hit as big as Jab We Met. The movie in question was a musical blockbuster and in that light people had high expectations from Kanden Kadhalai. Vidyasagar belied all those apprehensions and has showcased his creative abilities in a wonderful way. The music is very different and it soon grows upon you.

Music is not only catchy but different also. The musical cast is well ensemble and instrumentation is quite appealing. First song Venpanju is sung by Karthik and Udit Narayan. A youthful song, it has got everything required to be labeled as a racy composition. Beats are splendid and energy oozes out of the song.  Naan Mozhi has been sung by acclaimed singer Suresh Wadekar. It is more like a ghazals and will stay with you once you are done with listening to it. One of the best singers in India, Hariharan has sung Suthudhu. This song is very different because of its candy vocal and village beats.

Kattru Pudhithai is another good song by Rahul Nambiar. The song tends to catch pace as it progresses. Ododi Poren has been sung by Lavanya and Rashmi Vijayan. The song is more like a wild celebration of a free spirit. The last song Oru Naal Iravil has been rendered by Tippu and Benny Dayal. A peppy song, it’s more in the mould of Mauja Hi Mauja. All in all, you should go for this album.

The genre of Tamil film music offers very interesting insight into the varied preference of Tamil film fans. One of the movie recently released is Jaganmohini that is a remake of old mythological thriller that was directed by Vittalacharya. Jaganmohini has its music composed by legendary composer Illayaraja. Singers like Swetha and Chitra have lent their mesmerizing voice to the music of the movie. Last song Unnai Vittal has been blessed with powerful voice of Chitra. Imagine the magical voice of Chitra singing to the tunes of maestro Illayaraja? It’s a sheer pleasure listening to this song. The album is worth an earful, that’s for sure.
