Yuvan Shankar Raja is prone to giving some blockbuster hits every once in a while. However, his recent releases did not exactly set musical charts on fire. Questions were being raised on his form and wonder how does he reply? He comes with music of Paiyaa and needless to say, it is one of the best albums of the year. This also looks like a perfect swansong to 2009 from talented composer. Yuvan has composed songs in association with Lingusamy and songs have come out real gems. Music lovers have already taken this album to their hearts and no doubt Music Company is laughing all the way to the bank.

The movie Paiyaa stars Karthi and Tamannah. Lingusamy had also claimed about the good quality of the music and he proved to be right. The album begins with “Adada Mazhaida” sung by talented duo of Rahul Nambiar and Saindhavi. Quite a peppy song this one is and will remind you of “Dhavani Potta Deepavali” from Sandakozh. Try to focus on the rendition towards the end and you will be totally impressed with the folk template. Second song of the album is “En Kadhal Solla” rendered by Yuvan himself. One thing strikes about this song and that is orchestration. Humming part of the song will directly touch your soul.

“Poongatre Poongatre” is the third song of the album, sung by Benny Dayal. Lyricvs are good and song has a catchy tune. Younger lots will definitely like the song. The next number is “Suthudhe Suthudhe” sung amazingly well by Karthik and Sunitha Sarathy. We can safely consider this one as best song of the album. The last song of the album is “Thuli Thuli” which has been rendered by Haricharan and Tanvi. A perfect song to finish the album with. It will touch your heart.

The first song of the album is Thamizha Thamizha that has been rendered by incomparable S.P. Balasubramaniam. One has to admire SP because of his reservoir of energy even at the age of 60. Song has wonderful lyrics and has been sung passionately. Tamil people are bound to develop a liking for this beautiful song. Song also has a bit of rap in the middle.

The music director is a well known name in Kannada film industry and this is Vijay’s first Tamil venture. The album has total six songs.

First song of the album is ‘Utthirathil’ with vocals by Madhu Balakrishnan. The song reminds you of Chakravaha ragam (those who are familiar with classical music must have heard of this). It is basically a soft lullaby and rhythms are deep. It touches upon your chord and gives you something to listen in silence. The second song of the movie is ‘Adichhi Pottaa’. Shruthi Kamal Haasan is creating buzz in filmy circles. The lass is a multi-talented artist who has also made his bollywood debut with the movie ‘Luck’. Talented daughter of super-talented parents, Kamal Haasan and Sarika, she recently made her debut as a music composer with the movie ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’. The movie stars Kamal Hassan and MohanLal and is creating quite a buzz in Tamil film industry. Movie is based on critically acclaimed Hindi movie ‘A Wednesday’. The movie has mostly catchy songs and that sets the mood for the film. Interestingly, one of the singers in the album is Kamal Hassan himself. Album has managed to earn good reviews thanks to its smart instrumentation and rhythm pattern.

The album starts with the song ‘Nilai Varuma’ and the voices are of Kamal Hassan and Bombay Jayashreee. Song boasts of passion and power. Kamal Hassan sings loudly and probably that’s the idea of it. Song is quite promising and instrumentation is commendable. The next song in the album is ‘Vanam Yellai Illai’ and sung by Shruthi Hassan and Blaaze. The song has the potential to become favorite of youths because of its energy, catchy vocals and racy rap. Blaze is surely going places. ‘Allah Janne’ is the next song of the album and rendered by solo voice of Shruthi Haasan. Considered as pick of the album, song has been rendered beautifully. Nice usage of number of orchestration and rhythms, song is sure to catch your fancy.

‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ is the next number of the album and rendered by Mira, Tara and Aiden. It is also the title song. Song is more in the mould of jingle and its lyrics are very well written. Moving further, we listen to ‘Allah Jaane’ that has been sung by Kamal Haasan. A very different song, this gives the impression of nasal voice. To sum up, album is surely fresh and catchy, all thanks to Shruti’s exuberance and talent.

The songs of Eeram have been composed by Thaman and I must say, he has managed to impress us. The guy is surely is talented one as he also earned god reviews for his acting in Shankar’s Boys. His earlier movie ‘Sinthanai Sei’ proved to be a rage amongst youngsters and Eeram promises to recreate his magic. The movie has been directed by Arivazhagan. Songs of the movie are very simple and charming. Music is definitely different and theme music will impress you. The album has three songs.

The first number is ‘Mazhaiye Mazhaiye’ and sung by Ranjith. Music of the song focuses more on voice and less on instrumentation. It is a soft and touching song that will tug at your heartstrings. Ranjith has done a commendable job and lyrics have done full justice to the rendering. The next song is ‘Tharai Erangiya’ that has been sung by Suchitra. The song thrives on orchestration and rhythm. This song is really different and not at all your run of the mill kind of stuff.

The third number is ‘Saaral En’ and sung again by Ranjith. Probably the pick of the lot, Saaral will take your breath away with its voice and harmony. One is sure to love this masterpiece. Finally, the theme of the Eeram, is quite appealing and alluring. Mixing together of different sounds does some wonders and you are left wanting for more. Instrumentation work is very interesting and chorus is effective as well. Thaman has surely done a good job and promises a lot. This youngster seems to have what it takes to become a hit in kollywood.

One of the most talented Tamil singer and composer is Deva. He is in Tamil film industry for more than 20 years and needless to say, this has proved to be one memorable journey for this amazing singer. A great talent, Deva is also known as the “Father of Gaana Genre” in Tamil film industry. His musical journey started in 1989 with the film Manasukkeththa Maharaasa. He composed music for this movie and all the songs were chartbusters. The astonishing fact is Deva has composed music for no less than 400 movies. He has passed on his musical genes to his son Srikanth Deva who is also an established name in Tamil music direction.

Deva’s most popular songs have come from movies like Aasai, Citizen, Kaadhal Kottai, Chocolate, Kaalamellam Kaadhal Vaazhga, Annamalai, Dum, Avvai Shanmugi, Chokka Thangam, Bhagavathi, Basha and Devadhayai Kanden. A recipient of many awards, Deva has got a large fan following. His first came in 1990 when he won Tamil Nadu State Film Award. Thereafter he has won Tamil Nadu Government’s Kalaimamani Award and several other awards from popular journals.

Deva had struggled to make his mark in film industry. During his initial days, he worked in the Television field. He belonged to a family of musicians. Even his brothers were working in the musical troupes of Illayaraja and other music directors as instrumentalists. But Deva took his own sweet time to develop his skills and wanted to make his mark in an individual capacity. But the struggling period was long. Even the initial music assignments received by him did not materialize and films had to be shelved. Finally, all his hard work came to fruition when he signed his first movie, Manasukkeththa Maharaasaa. This movie was followed by Vaikaasi Poranthaachu and this movie turned his life forever. Its songs were huge hits and thereafter he never looked back. Deva has also dabbled into other regional movies and proved to be a huge hit.
