The music composer Vidyasagar already boasts of a loyal fan following. He has emerged quite successful in Tamil music industry. Even the literal meaning of Vidyasagar is melody. His latest gift is Tamil movie ‘Peranmai’. Made by filmmaker S P Jananathan, this album gives us a glimpse of immense talent of the composer. Quite an engrossing album, most of the songs have been sung by young guns and needless to say, the experiment has proved to be fairly successful. Lyrics have been given by Vairamuthu.
The album begins on a peppy note with ‘Kattu Puli Adicchu’ that has been sung by K K and Jassie Gift. It has elements like simplicity, classical raga, straight and best of all amazing use of flute. Both singers have done praiseworthy job. ‘Kaadu Kalai Katta’ is the next song of the album beautifully rendered by Madhu Balakrishnan. Madhu is known for giving numerous melodious songs that manage to tug at out heartstrings. This one is no exception. Quite a soft number, it has support of good lyrics and peppy beats.
‘Yaerathaazha Ezhu Mani’ is the next number in the album. The song has been enriched by mellifluous voice of Sadhna Sargam that duly compensates for other deficiencies of the song. An average number that will have its little moments. This songs also shows composer’s knack of fusing classical raga for a film song. The next song is ‘When the Boys’ and yes, it is quite different from other songs of the album. Sung by newcomers Sonia Irabar and Sianed Jones, the song has a Anglican touch with uncomplicated background music.
The last song of the album is ‘Thuppakki Pennae’ and it has been rendered by Shalini, Megha, Feji and Suvi. Quite a breezy number, it has appealing fusion. A must for young generation, this song is sure to be toast of the town for a while.
